VOL.11 NO.4

AFRICAN TRAGEDY

Dear Editor,
Sir, thank you for your article (the African Tragedy). It further shows that we are still backward in many things. Most of our African leaders are opportunistic and suffer from inferiority complex. Thanks, for making us see again that black is beautiful.
OMISORE MICHAEL OLUWAFEMI

Editor’s Note: - Thank you.

AFRICAN TRAGEDY
Dear Editor,
I agree with your opinion in the African Tragedy
ABIODUN OLUFOWOBI

Editor’s Note: - Thank you.

AFRICAN TRAGEDY
Dear Editor,
Ogunlana I am shocked that you felt that Africa, indeed Yoruba culture was desecrated by the High Chief’s choice of English as a language to deliver his message to a gathering of Nigerians. I disagree with you that this particular event should elicit such emotion from you. The thanksgiving service of the 2nd Vice President of NBA is a gathering where Nigerians, not Yoruba people. The Chief exhibited profound wisdom by choosing to deliver his message in English not because he considered Yoruba language inferior but because he saw that the audience was diverse and his king’s message will have a wide reach if he delivered it in English. That is wisdom
ANTHONY OKA

Editor’s Note: - You are only trying to re-write history, history which you did not partake in. those of us who were at the event knew that the reason the Chief gave for declining to speak in Yoruba was not the reason you invented for him. The man did not complain about diversity of tongues of his listeners but of their supposed learnedness.

NBA ELECTIONS 2010: LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD
Dear Editor,
I hope you made this comment in good faith, considering that you may not have come out of Ibadan with your personal experiences being met. Adesina, if Nigeria’s attempt to conduct the 2011 elections the way we did it in Ibadan, the whole world would judge it as “free fair and very credible election”. There is no use or need finding faults in everything. Please give Obi team some credit. I hardly can find all your allegations, fundamental.
PAUL AGBO
Editor’s Note: - you are entitled to your opinion.

‘LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD’
Dear Editor,
Well done for the gooooooooood coverage of events at Ibadan, especially the crowd control thing, Gosh!!
NBA WARRI LAWYERS

LAWAL ADENIYI WASIU

Editor’s Note:- Thank you.

SQUIB

The Editor,

My attention was drawn to your latest edition by a reader from Calabar, who saw same on the net.

Editor’s Note: Thank you.

SQUIB

The Editor,

I am one of your earliest staffers, way back in 2001 and I was with the Squib till 2003. I am now in Washington D.C, U.S.A and I was excited to find the Squib on the net. What I enjoy most here in the U.S in the Squib is the Learned Squib column.

I hope there is no more harassment of the Squib from the Lagos Judiciary

Bola Oluboro

Editor’s Note: I am happy for you. Hope you will not lose focus in the U.S or refuse to come back home to join in the struggle to turn Nigeria around.

SQUIB

The Editor,

I saw your advertisement of the proposed book on the SQUIB in your last edition I can’t wait to have it.

SQUIB

SAN DEBATE
The Editor,
Given your insightful analysis as we discuss now the reason why the SAN award should be scrapped, I think it will help if you publish your views as a cover story in the Squib. You know the power of the press as much as I do.
Editor’s Note: Of course I do. May be one of these days, we’ll do publish.

SAN DEBATE
The Editor,
I am convinced that the best thing is for the Senior Advocate of Nigeria to be scrapped otherwise, where do you begin to reform and where will you stop? And what do you about the numbers of those who are now silks but ought not to be in that group at all. Why do we need that title?
Ghana does not have it. America does not and they are much better than us.
If the title is scrapped there will be level playing field and then we will really those who are truly good lawyers and those who are using titles to prop up themselves.
Look at some one like you. You have paid your dues and every body knows that. Nobody deines touch and I can’t compare myself to you. Nobody in the system can deal with you the way they can deal with me.
That is what one calls distinction as it were without being a senior Advocate of Nigeria, you are already enjoying the privileges of a Senior Advocate. While you are well known, having carved a niche for your selves, there are so many anonymous S.A.NS, that needs introduction over and over.
Editor’s Note: Thank you.

RE: ABOLITION OF SAN
The Editor,
As the extra-ordinary meeting called by the Lagos Branch of the NBA to discuss the issue of the abolition of SAN on the 28th January 2010, there was the largest turn out of SAN’s in recent history. From the highly revered Chief G.O.K. Ajayi S.A.N, to former NBA president Chief Wole Olanipekun S.A.N, Chief G.H. Uwechwe S.A.N, Anthony Idigbe S.A.N Prof. Yemi Osinnajo S.A.N, former Attorney-General of Lagos State and his successor, Mr. Supo Shasore S.A.N, Mr. Emeka Ngige, S.A.NB, Chief Theodore Eze-Obi S.A.N, Mr. B.A.M. Fashanu S.A.N, Marke Igbokwe S.A.N, Professor S.A. Adesanya S.A.N, Kemi Pinhero S.A.N, Alade Agbabiaka S.A.N, Aribisala S.A.N and even the new S.A.N like Mr. Dipo Okpeseyi S.A.N. Also impressive in their turn out chairman Lagos NBA, Mr. Chijioke Okoli, Mr. Toyin Pinhero, Mr. Etigwa Uwa, Mr. A.J. Owonikoko, Chief Mike Ozekhome amongst others.
It was obvious that Pa Tunji Gomes and his abolitionists movement have shined the harvests next an dthe silks could no longer sit down arrogantly and condescendingly believing the abolitionist were a bunch of malicious and environs lawyers out to score a cheap point. No, the threat to the highly covered and priviledge-laden SAN is real, clear and present.
It is suggested that whatever legislation is arrived at in respect of the SAN title, whether to abolish same or modify the title in line with present day demands of justice in Nigeria should be appropriately sub-titled Pa Tunji Gomez Law.
Editor’s Note:
Till then

JUSTICE AYO
The Editor,
Is there a perpetual leave for justice W.A.E. Ayo (of the Lagos State High Court) not to ever sit and preside over cases. This judge has not sat for once this year! She just lock up all case-files assigned to her. Whats happening for God’s Sake?
Editor’s Note: We'll look in that direction soon.

FAWEHINMIISM
The Editor,
You put up a good performance as the Master of Ceremony of the 6th Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture and your report in the Squib of the event was quite nice. However why did the Cover picture of Adams Oshiomhole, the guest speaker at the event look like the way it did? The man did not look like a state Governor in that picture.
Editor’s Note: But he looked like himself!

FAWEHINMIISM
The Editor,
I congratulate the NBA Ikeja branch on the successful holding of the 6th Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture. It was so well organized and I must say I was served there, the biggest meat-pie ever.
Really the lecture was a good one and I would have crossed over to the Ikeja bar from the Lagos bar but for the fact that Ikeja is too far.
Editor’s Note: Tigers live exciting lives, you know.

SQUIB
The Editor,
Many people are saying that the new Chief Judge (Inumidun Akande) has a soft spot for you, infact both of you are chummy. Don’t dare deny it, if you must have been visiting her in chambers, abi if people didn’t see you, they won’t say.
Editor’s Note: Haba! How many female Chief Judges would be my darling. That’s how you guys virtually married me off to you know who! I am a small boy o!

The Editor,
I just read your letter to your sweet heart ‘Ibis’. How is she? Have you guys settled your differences’ How about the matter in Abuja?
Editor’s Note: Ibis is doing fine and I am doing fine too.

SQUIB
The Editor,
Today you came to court late. I hope you will publish that fact in your magazine?
Editor’s Note: Yes milady.

SQUIB
The Editor,
Please I’ll like you to include my name in the list of new wigs looking for jobs in your magazine. There was an applicant who got his employment via the publication in your magazine
Editor’s Note: You’ll be right up there.

SQUIB
The Editor,
Why are you so troublesome? You know that by December 2009 that the elders have waded into the crisis in the Executive Committee and resolved our differences, yet you went ahead to write all you did asking “WHOSE HEAD WILL ROLL IN ENUGU”?
Linda Bala Rose
Legal Secretary NBA
Editor’s Note: If the elders gagged you why should the gag extend to the squib?

SQUIB
The Editor,
You are one man that God is fighting for. Your prosecutor before the NBA Disciplinary Committee is on the run from the EFCC. Hmm... God is on your side
Editor’s Note: Praise God!
